Yeah, that does look a bit similar.

Darin? Is there a reasonable explanation for the spam?

unwanted E-mail easy to get rid of

Click here & then click there & it's gone.
Snail mail ads, I have to bale them up & take them to dump transfer station
or burn 'em.

Just wondering if anyone here would be pleased to receive unrequested promotional type email from any sponsor(s) of ArboristSite.com?

This of course would be a direct violation of ArboristSite.com's Rule 13.

BUT, according to the rules established, we shouldn't have to!
This is "spamming" and is a bannable offense.
I am certainly not allowed to find members in my area and email them sales flyers on firewood, chainsaw parts, or services, sponsor or not.
That was one of the advantages of this site, you didn't have to put up with that crap.
I guess this has become the norm so much that people are used to it now.

Maybe Rule #13 got incorporated into Rule # 21

21. ArboristSite.com reserves the right to make any changes or decisions that may not necessarily be covered in the guidelines that it deems is in the best interest of the site.

I got spam from treecarebids.com also. Is that really arboristsite.com? What gives?

I can't post my response to the spam or I would be banned here.

That's not the issue. It's a matter of trust, which has been violated. To recap what we've learned for those who missed it:

  1. We give our personal info (email address) to Darin as a condition of being able to use his site.
  2. In return, Darin promises not to spam us, nor to let other people spam us.
  3. Darin then sets up a fictitious business identity, and competes with many of his site members. You remember those guys? They're the ones who make this site profitable by:
    • Being here. (Hits sell advertising.)
    • Patronizing the sponsors. (If the sponsors don't see results, they move on.)
  4. Darin then, using his fictitious business identity, violates our trust by spamming members.

Any questions?

The competition issue doesn't hit me directly, but it's a real issue for many of the members. Doing so behind the cloak of a phony business doesn't exactly give me warm fuzzies, either.

I would like to see an apology and and explanation of the spamming, but I'm not holding my breath. This thread has been up since 8:03 this morning, and some members have contacted him via PM. No response out in the open.

I predict this thread will disappear.

So, after this post, I expect to be banned, but that's okay. You're known by the company you keep. I don't want to be part of supporting such practices.

The site's been going downhill anyway, and I spend way too much time here. Jawing with you guys is fun and even a bit addictive, but I have other things to do.

You're a great bunch!

Well, some of you. ;)

:hmm3grin2orange:

See ya sometime!

If you sign on with them and pay a fee you can get bids in your area. If you don't sign on then someone gets the chance to bid. It's a lot like treeservicedirect, servicemagic.com and other companies competing for your possible clients.....that is if you are in the tree biz.

Thank you for the explanation.

It seems like a sketchy business model at best--just shy of either payday loans or collateralized debt obligations based upon sub-prime mortgages.

But I'm not in the biz and certainly do not want their spam. I think I made very clear to them.

This affects my day very little, except for some more junk e-mails to deal with, but it is not a good thing in my eyes. What interests me so much is that nobody "official" has posted in this thread. I guess somebody needs to post a picture of a female in underwear in here, that ALWAYS gets their attention....

i just noticed treecarebids.com is also at the top of the site with the sponsors now. The other sponsors don't have access to email addresses and are not allow to send spam out to the members. thats a unfair practice being don't from management.

So does each time we click on treecarebids.com cost them money? (I got a case of beer, a laptop, and all weekend with nothing to do.)

i don't know about anyone else but, all the ads go into my spam folder and down the toilet with last night's dinner..
all they are doing with me is wasting there's and yahoo's bandwidth..
