I used to have an old Charter Oak wood/coal stove. When that burned through I decided to build a rocket stove. Thread here:

After two winters, I've decided to go back to a wood stove. The Rocket stove was a fun project, but it just didn't put out the heat I needed. It was extremely efficient - there was hardly any ash to clean out, and I used very little wood, but it takes a longer period of time to heat up, and then it doesn't get all that hot, since there's less wood burning.

So I bought a little stove off of marketplace the other day - some gal was practically giving it away at $75. Fairly small, but should do the trick.

I'll be a bit sad to see the rocket stove go, since I worked so hard on it, but I'll be glad of the better heat.

Also, I should insulate the ceiling.........
