Been studying and thinking of changing my 1st floor Pre fab fireplace (heatilator E39) into something more like a stove. I have found out that the chimney pipe is special to that product and is a 300 series (what ever that means ) rated double wall non insulated air cooled pipe. Been told both it cannot be lined and it can be lined for stove use. Then been told they make inserts for this situation. I'm not an insert fan but if it could work and be safe its my cheapest route to a little added extra 1st floor heat on the real cold days. Anyone else been there done this?
