Solo 694

Hi Guys I talked to a saw builder about having a 066 built,he said, but it might not beat the 2100's jonesy's,or the 395 husky as a competition saw in 6cu.in.and under class, due to the small lower transfers to get maximum amount of power to be competitive. ok does anyone have or ran a solo 694 ? I don't know alot about solo but there made in Germany ,i think you can order parts online they have been around awile and the closest dealer is about two hours from me. what do you guys think. ok...its my opinion that a finished 066...will still eat that 395 until some serious mods are done...like a new carb and many hours in the cylinder....the 066 is one of the best stock saws out there as much as I hate to admit it...the 395 needs alot of work to catch up...I think Ken Dunn will agree with me here, as he has built some 395s....i have only done 394s as of yet...

the 2100's and some of the older saws are hard to beat when built right....and once again, Ken will attest to that....if anyone wants a full blown race saw...he is Yoda...he can make anything run to its full potential...

seth, I have not seen a 694 yet, so I cant comment on the transfer issue...

Dennis Happy Canada Day! Seth here. Ken was who I've been talking to about the 066.The issue about the not having large enough lower transfers to maximum amount of power was his.When Ken Dunn gives me advise I have not yet disagred. so thats why I am looking at the Solo 694 ,have you ever built or had one apart Dennis, they are one of the new models from Solo I think it's about 90 cc . the site is www.solousa.com :Monkey:

Great pics Jeff! Maybe you're in the wrong business? The Solo guys say that beast likes to run flat out at 13,000. I would imagine that is after a reasonable break in period don't you? How do you have yours tuned?

Hey Jeff, that 694 looks an awful lot like a Dolmar 9010, only a subtle difference in the shape of the top cover. The 9010 is a 13,500 rpm saw according to Dolmar and they list 4.9kw as 6.9 HP. Ought to be a screamer! Russ

In my neck of the woods (Northern IL), the dealers are pricing the new 694 at $769 w/28" bar. Solo's website has a list of retail dealers and service centers. These will be much cheaper than ordering online I understand. Solo's retail direct prices are ridiculous, especially on saws. Way better off trying to find a dealer. I was talking w/a Solo rep last week. The Solo distributor in IL covers IL. IN, MO and S.E. WI. He also said they have seven distributors in the U.S. and one in Canada. Seems like there's new dealers poping up every day. May have something to do w/the warranty and that dealers are tired of getting pushed around by the "Big Boys".

She is a screamer! Jeff Sikkema (another Solo fan) and I both ran the 694 down at Louisville and were impressed. Plenty of power, well balanced and I really liked the double air filtration. I'd like to run one after it was broke in! The Dolmar 9010 is a fine saw so...I think Solo picked a good one. I hear the reason they replaced the 690 was EPA and upgrading to a better air filter for the loggers.

I should have been more clear (I was posting b4 my first cup of morning coffee). The 694 has a fully flocked air filter and a pre filter. Most pre filters are pretty hoakie but this one seems to do a good job. You can see it in Jeff's first pictire right to the right of the recoil handle. I pulled it off to take a look. It's a strong, tight mesh filter. That's the air intake on that saw, and leads to the flocked filter. (Did any of that make sense???) Tooo many libations.

My 1st well pump removal and reinstall. I did it myself (along with a freind) and it went really good. Hardest part was to remove the unit. With the check valve in the pump there was (calc) about 30lbs of water, pump at another 30lb and 100' of 1" PVC, wire and right angle head adapter. Going back in the water was drained so it was a little lighter. Spent ~ $300 on a 3/4 HP 2 wire pump and parts. Got a estimate over the phone from the original installer (inclunding Saturday) ~$900 WOW!!
Good to get a shower again
