I just pasted this from my email :

Hello Ben; thanks for your loyal support of WL products over the years!

No doubt with two recalls in short order it would leave anyone wondering what’s going on.

Please read below an expression of what we were faced with and how we tried to do the right thing.

Even though (and especially regarding the Rings) we were assured on more than one occasion from “US Rigging” from whom we bought the rings that went on our original Cougar saddles that those rings were not part of the previous ring recall of Kong Rings.

Obviously if they had suggested that they were associated with that recall we would have reacted much earlier but they did not do that.

Unfortunately it took a ring failure for them to come clean!

So now we have well marked tested rings from ISC and hopefully we can put this unpleasant business behind us!

The message starts Bellow!

Thanks for your response. Your frustration, dissatisfaction, and concerns are understandable. While we regret your lost confidence, we understand it. We have been manufacturing positioning saddles for over 35 years and have always prided ourselves on manufacturing quality and safe, dependable performance in the field. We have never been in a position which required recalling saddles or components of a saddle, and then we have had to perform two recalls within a year. We realize these recalls may certainly negatively impact the perception of our product, yet we strongly feel that actively trying to resolve potential issues in the field was (an always will be) the right thing to do. While we recognize that we may not regain your trust and confidence in our product, please be aware of more background related to the recalls.

All of our saddles, including the Cougar, have been developed and tested to exceed testing requirements. We have detailed quality control procedures put into place in the manufacture of all our saddles, and we purchase components that are to be suitable for use. Unfortunately, on the Cougar saddle we purchased components (rope bridges and O-rings) that met initial testing requirements but became potential issues. We understand that we are only as good as our suppliers and had chosen these 2 previous suppliers based on their quality and established experience in the industry. We no longer buy either component from either supplier, and are purchasing these components from companies with a strong track record for dependability. The component issue certainly affected our Cougar saddle, and we are striving to eliminate any future component issue in the future.

Please know that we developed our business by manufacturing quality, dependable products that exceed all applicable safety standards. We remain committed to that quality and safety in the field. We hope at some point that we will regain your confidence and trust in our product.

Sincerely,

####.

Sounds like their giving you the shaft Dan. I read; Although you have spent hard earned money on our POS foreign bought parts we at Weaver are unable to redeem ourselves in any way especially giving you, our hard working money spending customer, anything but a pat on the ass on your way out the door.
Typical corporation.

I read: " Yeah, we are really sorry about that Bull#### and I think we learned our lesson. Thanks for all you help and for sticking with us, we really aren't that big of a company when it comes down to it. We have always offered good quality tough saddles at a proper price but we got a little bogged down with today's expectations and were listening to the wrong people. Now keep in mind, the saddle ain't gonna be cheap anymore. We are gonna have to charge what its gonna be worth."

At least that is what I hope I read.

I think the e-mail they sent me was verbatim to the one you received, I would have to check to be sure Did they offer you a cap and t-shirt?
Part of the problem is it's impossible to know are they sincere(Weaver)and made a mistake and care about the weaver's name and will make an honest effort to correct it and see it never happens again, or are they sorry they got caught and their executives are doing damage control and covering up? This is the video tour of Weaver Leather. Just from the vid it looks like most of their business is equine and tack. Arborist gear is probably a pretty small segment.

I think we should schedule a tour... and not just to try to hook up with them hot Amish women either.

The old Weaver saddles were very good for 150 bucks. They were very dependable and a climber could afford to get a new one when needed which is an important thing in itself.
With today's thinking, expectations, technology its not as hard as one might think to get into trouble.
I do think this company missed some very good points that should be in their extensive training programs. I think they way they have their programs set up can obscure what they are trying to teach.

Amish women look like they might be kinda kinky. I really like my Cougar saddle even though I had to replace the bridge, and then a month later replace the rings. I'm really good now at taking it apart and reassembling it.

I just said the part about the Amish women for profiling purposes you sicko!:msp_ohmy::msp_unsure::msp_tongue:

I am glad others like the saddle given its faults. I really didn't expect such things from this company but we all know how it can be when decent people all try to work together then realize that parts of the team aren't really on the same page.
I mean, if you look at Weaver and see what they were about before you can see why they had problems getting this new style saddle together. You guys do realize the recalls when a new kind of car hits the street? I don't know why it has to be like that but it is and some of the recall are seriously so silly but they could really hurt someone.

Like the recall on the automatic seats... you know the seats with the electric switch down on the cushion? Seems if you are fat enough your girth could inadvertantly activate the adjustment switch and if you have never seen a water buffalo stuck behind the wheel of a Saturn LS 200 then you just might not know.

Do you guys know there is c4 in your seatbelt retractors? A lot of cars have that and of course the recalls insue.

I am not so much sticking up for Weaver as I am just talking about recalls in general but so far I don't believe they have commited a major crime.

Careful not to lol yerself right outta the saddle making business. I am having trouble underdstanding what it is you think so funny Dave from American Arborist has just informed me that he is unable to put my saddle back together due to the hemmoriaged rope bridge. This is the same exact rope bridge that came with the saddle and I recall talking to you personally about it. This is the rope bridge that was wore out in 6 months of light duty service which is quite unsatisactory. Its not that I use the bridge, I just never took it off when I made a new one but they will not assemble the saddle and I will surely not be purchasing one.

I do not recall if they have an updated brand new Cougar saddle in my size at the American Arborist store though I will call in the morning to find out and if they do I expect to walk in there and get it but I do not expect to pay for it. This situation has and still is costing me from day one and I am rapidly losing faith and patience in your company.

keep in mind the rope bridge on my saddle was not part of the their recall but it was part of mine and I want to tell everybody that if you insist on climbing on little pieces of string like that... well, you just shouldn't.
And that goes for anything, not just this saddle. Doesn't matter what its rated for, its not rated for the abuse its gonna get. I think they are stretching things a little thin.

LOL at 60' up ?

I think you need to have that funny girl Sharon do a demo climb in a Cougar. Get her up in a nice tall tree and then tell her she is wearing a saddle you made just for her. You used unmarked rings that someone said were OK and a rope bridge made from some new fiber you are hoping will work. Oh yes, also tell her you put the saddle together yourself late last night using instructions you found online and hope you got it right. I'll bet she won't be LOL then. Maybe she will understand just how important this whole subject really is.
