We have an older magnolia tree that was allowed to grow several main branches instead of one. Consequently, the tree is beginning to split. Is there anything I can do at this point. I hate to lose the tree.

Magnolias are easy to prune into a natural shape, and possible cabled, while lessening the strain on the split. But like any tree they can be butchered by hacks.

please post pictures; it's quite easy. and find a local professional here; http://www.isa-arbor.com/findArborist/findarborist.aspx
