Recently cut a dead maple down I my yard and acquired almost (what I think) will be 2 cords of sugar maple. Maple is not my favorite to hand split, so I went to the splitter quickly. Won't be nearly as easy to stack as Oak and ash either. I have come a cross a bunch of "uglies"

Soft maple is nice, doesn't take long to cure to where you can burn it. Split & stacked in the open, it's good to go in about 8 months.

It does create a lot of uglies and odd-shaped splits, especially in the tops.

Grab some wooden skids and raise up that splitter before you wreck your back. Put skids under the wheels and a round under the tongue, use tiedowns to hold it onto the skid. My BIL has one and that's what I did when I borrowed it. He actually sits on his knees to use it, no way was I going to do that.

I have an old set of car ramps that I back the splitter on to get some height but these pieces were so big and I was working alone so low was the way to go this time. ;)
