Stihl 036 need points

Does anybody know where to get some or who may have some to sell.A friend of has one and it needs points he told me.

If the saw has no spark, then he needs a new 0000 400 1300 coil.
Lots of those around for sale.

Points are easily cleaned-up....at least to get running.
Double up a strip of 400 grit wet-or-dry sandpaper (so can clean both contacts)
Back and forth a few times..or more until you see flat surface on both sides of contacts...
This may take several strips and numerous sandings according to degree of burnt contacts.

This...of course is assuming your condenser is good.

Jeez, I never saw points on a 036, but then again, maybe there was an older version of it that I never saw before! It was driving me crazy, checking all my old manuals! :msp_scared:

No points. Bad coil or grounded kill switch wire. Disconnect the kill wire from the coil and try for spark first. Use a known good plug too.

Sure there are points....right next to the muffler bearings !!!:big_smile:
