It does not matter just keep your saw out of tall grass and get a new clip when you replace the sprocket. Also monofilament fishing line can kind of ruin your afternoon. I usually hang on to an old sprocket and clip for what if, I guess a brand new spare would be better.

I have had many dozens of E clips off and on my saws and never noticed the flat side /rounded side thing lol.
Cookies recommends flat side in, against washer, ericm says flat side out.
So which way is correct fellas?
I tend to go with eric
flat side out mate, rounded towards the washer.
the thrust on the clip is outwards, and you want a square mating up of the clip into the groove on the crank , if you put the rounded there, it increases the chance of the clip coming off.
