Stihl Gray Woodsman Case

Afternoon Gents.
I picked up a Stihl 028 Super in parts recently. Mostly there, had to purchase several items, but together and running quite well.
Odd thing is the case. Looks like a regular Woodsman case, but Gray molded plastic vs Orange .
Anyone know more about this?

Yes , that is the case.
I haven't seen one before, and my friends hadn't either.

The gray cases are late 80's early 90's era. Some vintage stihl literature has a pic of one that is circa 1990.
Smaller than newer orange. 250 barely fits with lid tight to close.

Please don't tell anybody this but I found out that a Stihl 025 will just fit inside the black compact case that's usually sold with a Poulan Wild Thing. Shhhh....

I concur. My dad bought me my first Stihl an 021 back in early 1990s, maybe 1993. It came with the gray case like this. All his other saws purchased during that timeframe have the gray cases. Now they have all changed to Stihl orange, but pretty much the same case with a little improvement in design.
