Stihl ms250 brake handle melted to muffler

Was using my ms250 last night and i went to engage the brake and disengage it and when i pushed it forward to engage it the black brake handle melted to the top of the muffler. Couldn't get them apart so finished with another saw. Anyone ever heard of this happening? What would cause the handle to hit the muffler?
