Stihl ms290 chain pitch

I have about a year old Stihl ms290 farm boss saw. When I ordered it I got the .325 pitch chain and the 20 inch bar. I mostly wanted the bar length to cut anything I would need to in the future.

Okay so my question is:

With a 20 inch bar does the ms290 cut better with the 3/8 pitch chain or the .325

I have the option of switching it over before I purchase the files and cutting guides to sharpen the .325

Should I stick with the .325 or switch everything over to run the 3/8 chain? Any first hand advice is appreciated. Thanks!

20 is waaay max for that saw. If you go to 3/8, ya might as well say goodbye to ANY cutting power. Stay with the smaller kerf.

I will stick with the .325 chain for my 20 inch bar, on the MS290

i run the .325 on my 290 w/ 16" bar. runs great. i use the stihl yellow box un safety chain.

It's not like it cuts bad with the 20" bar, I just didn't know if throwing a 3/8 chain on it would cut thru any better or faster...

I'll try the rm non low kick back chain on it, when I order a new .325 chain
