That's great, I was looking for confirmation on part # before I ordered something else that didn't work out! I appreciate it so much as well as @Parkerpusher and @Sierra_rider!

Now I can confidently go to the dealer and know I wil receive the correct parts. The error on the clutch cover I originally ordered was for the 440 which does fit but spikes do not. So hopefully I can put this to rest and enjoy this new saw to its potential 😁😁.

My sincere apologies to all for this agonizing long thread🙁
I was happy to help, if I did. Like @Sierra_rider said, this also creates a resource for others trying to do the same thing. Apology not required, I hope you are in the right track now!

I just installed the OEM double dog and chain catch on my 400c today. The roll catch is too long so I had to cut about 1/8" off. Not sure if there is a shorter PN that would just fit or not.
Looks good, I was expecting the dogs to be just a bit larger, but I didn't want huge ones and I think realistically these will work well for my needs.

OK, So to bring my long winded post to conclusion I ordered and received the correct stock Stihl parts to fit my MS 400:

Large clutch cover 1138-648-0400 $64.33
Brake cover 1140-021-1100 $7.68
Inner Spike 1135-664-0501
Outer spike 1135-664-0500
Spikes were $20.33 ea.

As stated earlier, I have done mechanical work on my own tractors, farm equipment, trucks, cars and many other items. Never has it been this difficult and time consuming. I am left with the impression that our dealers simply do not know how to cross reference parts between saws or just are unwilling to call Stihl and obtain the information.

Glad it’s behind me and thanks again to everyone‘s patience and kindness 😁

Most dealers are completely clueless.
