normally on the ones Ive seen the liquid crystal display stays on until the battery runs out after 5 - 10 years, it will display the hours until the engine starts running & starts showing rpms
Oh ok. So its normal then.

I have the same, it is good for the very few $ it costs!
Once on it will not shut down, as others already mentioned.

Have You made a warranty claim?:p

Did You drop a tree on it? If so how does the saw look like then? :omg:
Sell it for parts, the battery is worth 2-3$. :D

How does it fare in use bar this minor glitch all said and done.
Thought the cheapos had a slooow refresh??
The refresh isn't great on these, but it is not that bad either!
What would one want for under 10$ shipped?

When/if mine craps out I'll just buy another one.

They do fail. I've bought 6 of them for lawn tractors. One had circuit board fail - tossed it. 1 other got stuck on RPM and wouldn't change. Took it apart and removed battery for 10 mins (like a computer cold boot) and it works now. When they cost $9, it's hard to get worked up over a failure.

Don't buy these, they are too slow to keep up with RPM changes. Sample time is every 2 seconds!
When you really need a cheap tach meter better buy these

I actually paid mine 15 Euro on Amazon, but the same unit can be had for under 10 USD including free shipping on EBay.

Unit like mine:

erikvr is right - make sure it says 2 stroke. Some say 4 stroke. I'm gonna order a round edge one to compare with the sharp edge one.

These, the sharp edged ones, are for both 2-stroke and 4-stroke.
They come set up for 4-stroke from the factory, at least mine did, and have to be set to 2-stroke if that is what You need!
