Is there a way to test a coil without putting it on a saw? I was wondering if you could maybe run an Ohm test?

Typically, if ohms resistance from spark to ground are low...throw it away. This indicates a short in the windings. Even then, it is hardly a comprehensive test.

Each coil will have a specific resistance and "reject" parameters, but that might be hard to find.
