Some of you have PM'd me asking about my elm. Specifically if it had been topped, or trimmed by the power company because it is close to the power lines. Here are a couple pics to show what the power company did to it. The first pic is its full profile looking west. Beautiful ain't it? The second pic is facing north and shows how much the power company cut from it so it wouldn't hit the lines. I have owned this tree for 5 years. As long as I have had it there has been no cutting to it so what the power company did happened at least before I owned it. It has never been topped as much as I can tell. This American Elm is in the middle of a corn field so I don't think anyone would have ever done any "modification" to it.
If you squint you can see the power lines running behind the elm. You can also judge the height of this elm by the power lines. For some reason picutres don't accurately show just how tall this elm is. This trimming hurt the balance of the Elm's profile as you come up the road north/south. The East/west profile really shows off the classic elm shape. This one could win a beauty pageant!
