Sure, it seems a bit odd to base a purchase decision on what the back of the stove looks like,

A big factor for the wife was the look and feel of the stove.

Not odd at all - you have to live with it every day, so you might as well like it. Some guys would push their choice on you as "the best", but there are a lot of factors that vary for every application.

No pics yet. Won't pick up the stove till this sat and even then we have some work to do prior to putting it in. We are going to redo some flooring and build a permanent hearth where the stove sits.

Understandable. I don't mind the front aesthetics but didn't know the back is facing another room. That does matter.
