I saw the thread Brad posted on porting the 40cc Ryobi, after seeing how the little saw was put together I had to have one, just to play with of course. I got this one here for $40.00 it was leaking fuel everywhere, tank vent was gone just a hole in the tank. Fixed, muffler modd, adjustable carb, I think I like it.

I have not modded mine yet- just put a 12" Carlton bar with 3/8 lopro on it and it is now my limbing saw. It is wicked with that little bar on it!! LOL!

I used mine for the first time this weekend (having never used a chainsaw before).

Overall, it feels pretty lightly built ... but I guess that's a good thing, since my cutting needs are pretty light. The bar seems a little flimsy to me; it's pretty long with a fairly light mounting. I think I'd like a 14" or 16" better if I was cutting much thick stuff.

I found it could vapor-lock and stall out when starting after it was warm. That was solved by holding it near vertical and revving it a couple of times. The fuel filter was rolling around loose when I got it, easily put back on the hose.

It was very thrifty on fuel and bar oil.

Overall, I was very impressed. I know Aspen is nothing difficult to get thru, but this little saw chewed thru up to 15" of wood without stuttering. It could wear me out pretty fast.

I modded the muffler, new gas cap, and put a 16 inch bar and lo pro. It rides on my ATV to keep trails and fence clean. It has taken a beating for year, starts, runs and cuts. One of the better $100 I have spent

had a couple of the earlie versions through the workshop - oil pumps tend to strip gears - the Ryobi bar oil goes all gungy and rubbery which stops the pump spinning very well - would use the Stihl stuff in it an hopefully it will run fine.
Changing the pump is a pain - need to pull the whole engine out to get to it.

FIL has one. I found the motor quite crisp and perky but didnt try it in some wood.Thought the 18" bar would be a bit much for it.

Filter was rolling around in tank when I received mine also, paid $114 for mine. I like the way it cuts and I'm waiting for the 90 day warranty to end to consider porting and a muffler mod.

Thanks for the heads up on the oil pump, now I'll make sure it has the good stuff in it at all times.
