TIPS and tricks

I thought i would start a thread on some tips or tricks you may have about something saw related i have one for restoring faded plastic and decals works really good on black try rubbing in your favorite 10w30 it will make fadded plastic shine again another one if your log is too heavy to lift to get a sling around get another guy and stand square to each other over the log and lean opposite shoulders into another you will be able to lift up a huge tree this way albeit not very high

The best trick I've learned here is when you're bucking, tap a wedge into the kerf to keep the log from pinching the bar. That's saved my keester more than once, usually from bars that are already pinched tho.

Make sure that any new employee knows that the oil reservoir MUST be filled everytime the saw is gassed up.

You can take a 1/2 drive 6-point Mac deepwell socket and grind the OD such that it leaves 4 crenelations (yeah, I've been watching the History Channel again) opposite the drive end. This makes a dandy tool for torquing the upper ball joint nuts on a Dana 44 froint axle. Then, once your ball joints are in, you can grind two opposing tangs off the tool and have a great clutch tool for a Poulan 2600.

One of my favorites, stuff a length of 1/4" rope or starter rope into the spark plug hole (make sure piston is just above exhaust port) for a gentle piston stop. Then remove clutch nut with a 3/4" drive, 800 ft/lbs of torque impact wrench

Or compressed air. A product that I've found to work good on cleaning bars and chains is Break-Free CLP. I use it on all my guns because it lubes as it cleans and so I tried it on my chain .... works great.

Any Ideas, On how else I can get a New Husky.


I made this port polisher out of a 1/4" rod, Take a cut off wheel and make a slit on one end to hold a piece of scotch brite, works great, I use this to remove corrosion off aircrafts too.
