Tree ID

I did a cutting job for a guy last fall. He got a hold of me this week and said he had another job. I went today and checked it out. There are two black walnut trees, two hackberry and this guy. My guess is that it's Locust but not sure. Don't see a lot of these around here.

The bark doesn't look like black locust but the leaves do. Are there thorns? The trunk shape looks like locust too. Could it be honey locust?

I couldnt find any thorns. I was thinking Locust but wasn't sure. My wood ID skills are not even close to where they need to be. I have heard that Locust burns good.

I can tell oak, maple, Elm and Ash........................But only if it has leaves on it.

thornless honey locust. when you cut into it, that will tell you for sure. if its a light yellow its black locust, if its pinkish-brown its honey locust. also honey locust smells sweet. black locust just smells like wood.

I'm +1 for thornless honey locust.
Although thornless honey locust still has thorns just not many.

If you find any thorns it's a sure honey locust ID, if you find none then it's probably a black locust with odd bark.
BL on busy streets with lots of car exhaust can respond with odd looking bark much like beans and pees respond in a similar location.

It burns real good, cant load the stove with just locust it gets way to got. Does nt rot fast either, we have some down in the woods for over 10 years, seems to just get harder.

The leaves look like locust but the trunk looks nothing like the black locust around here.
