Actually its a good question as to what oil to use.
I grew up using motor oil. Now mostly it was surveying, so we didn't do the saw chain in (cutting usually not heavy continuous), and we used slow running Homemolgiht XL12 for the most part.
However, when I got the Stihl, I reviewed all the argues and Figueroa I was better of going with their bar oil.
Canola oil is for cooking, and bar oil (particular from European Socialist Chainsaws mfgs are a bunch of greenies) is not only designed for a chainsaw, its environmentally correct. You just don't get any better than that.
I would not trust Asian bar oil, lord knows it probably has recycled PCBs, radioactive materials
and lead in it they are trying to dump back on us.
