I'm looking pretty seriously into picking up a Husky 346xp. Trying to decide what bar to order with it. What do you guys prefer to use on your 346xp's and how does it run for you?

Just to add a bit, I already have a 372xp that wears a 20 inch bar so I want the 346xp for my lightweight saw / backup saw. Not sure if I want to order it with the 16 inch bar or the 18 inch bar.

On my 445, with considerably less power than the 346XP, I use the semi-chisel microlite setup for dirty cutting, and a Oregon 20LPX chisel for clean cutting. Even with the wider kerf, the 20LPX outperforms the microlite. I'd imagine you'd get similar results with the 346XP.

It would be nice if Oregon made chisel microlite chain, but having different bars dedicated to chisel and semi-chisel is probably better, since it avoids running the clean chisel chain on a bar rails worn in dirtier conditions, thus keeping the load-bearing surfaces of the chain truer. At least this is what I've noticed.

I've got a 372 and a 346.

346 - 18" Husky bar w/ Stihl RSC chain
372 - 24" Husky bar w/ full skip Stihl RSC chain

I like the 18" on the 346 - just a touch longer than the 16" - I think it's perfect.

I also love the 24" skip tooth on the 372 - it flat eats.

I only have 6-7 tanks through each saw.

Running a stock 346 (catalytic converter - green cap edition) with an 18" bar.
I have cut oaks and soft woods with no problems. It has plenty of power to spin the stock 18" bar and chain.

I am putting a little better chain (pro semi-chisel) on it this weekend, so by Monday I'll have an answer how it runs with out the safety chain.
