It's an 028 super cylinder that I got with some transfer. I attempted the sanding method emery cloth. I am trying to decide if it's good enough to get the meteor piston kit and replace the standard cylinder on my running 028. Kit is $40, so if it's not good enough then I won't waste my time and money.

If you have a piston, then there's not much to lose by trying. But I wouldn't spend $45 to find out it's bad.

What size is your stock cylinder? 42 or 44 mm.

Stock is a 44mm. I also have a 42mm with the metal tank that has scoring.

Yep...just slide the piston in first and move it up and down to make sure you have everything clean.
