I am new to this forum, and I figured this section would be the best for my question. I am not a professional by any means. Just your regular Joe cutting some wood for a backyard fire pit ( which I use about a full cord in every year) and camping trips ( about a cord or more a weekend). I recently removed some logs from a lot clearing job, and am not sure on what kind of wood I have here. I am hoping hickory. Attached is two good photos. Thanks for any help!

No leaves or even twigs on the logs I got, but I'm in good luck because there is a tree that looks just like it near my work parking lot. Now I just have to wait and see to identify by the leaves.

I'm going with white oak. I'm sitting here on the computer eating dinner looking at one in the back of my house right now. The bark is 100% the same as the one in your pictures.

The middle log in the first picture has a small sprout on it. How are the bud scars arranged? If they opposite one another, then it is likely silver maple. If not, then I'd lean toward it being white oak as others have said.
