I have never had one in a saw but had 6 custom made pistons in my turbo charged slant 6 and all I can say is quality was awesome!!!

Looking back at my records, all pistons measured .0003" of each other and weighed within a 1/2 gram of each other.

On the left is a stock cast piston and the right is a custom forged.

Brad reviewed an 066 Wiseco piston a while back. It was beautifully made but there was an issue with the way it fit the wrist pin. Also, he encountered some scuffing problems. Forged pistons require more clearance and a careful warmup, which Brad did, but it scuffed anyway.

The bottom line is that no one has been able to offer a good reason to use forged pistons in a chainsaw. There are disadvantages to forged and the strength is normally not needed unless an engine is turbocharged or something similar.

A good quality cast piston like Meteor is good enough for most of us. Once in a great while a cast piston will fail due to casting flaws like internal porosity, but usually they work fine.

I had a run of Wiseco pistons made for
the Sachs Dolmar 166 and have beat the
crap out of one with no issues.
But these pistons were made for me with
the specs i gave there enginering dept.
I know Brad had some issues but have no i no idea
as to what communication Baileys had with wiseco.

Only in snowmobiles. But they are about the best you can buy there.

As mtngun said forged pistons do have an issue with cold seizing. Plain and simple the internal structure of a forged piston is going to be more dense than a cast piston, so they'll expand more with heat and weigh more. But they will be absurdly stronger.

As mentioned above, I used one from Baileys in a 066. It kept scuffing. I kept polishing it out, and it kept skuffing. The MS440 piston I had, had the ring end pins in the wrong location. I threw all of mine in the recycle bin.

Had Wiseco pistons in my dragbike. Used a bunch of them in other stuff also. I have two of the 066 pistons that I got from Baileys. I haven't intalled them yet. One showed up with the ring locating pins out of place, so if you get one be sure to check it over. The $50 is a good deal. The were originally $119.

I see Baileys has Wiesco pistons on E-bay. Has anyone used one?

Well I sure have not seen Baileys ever sell anything on ebay but maybe I have just been a ole mushroom:) Now I see some have had questions about Wiseco pistons quality . I sure cannot see them having a problem with quality as long as they are given the correct specs and application. I am sure most realize Wiseco has been building pistons for years for all types of 2 stroke and 4 stroke applications. There is a reason they are still a top piston manufacturer and dominate the high end market.

I can assure you they have a problem with quality. The pins on one of my pistons are a good 20 degrees out of place.

Toyota is the worlds largest automobile maker, but as we all know they can stub their toe too...

different alloy

if the piston is made of 2618 it is very strong but has a high exspansion rate; if they are made of 4032 low exspansion high siliconalso strong but not as strong as 2618. Cast pistons are not as strong as hipereutectic whitch is not as good as 4032. As far as how strong 4032 is that is the allow they use in formula 1. 2618 is mainly used in nascar and drag racing. If you are having pistons made you do not need 2618,4032 is most likely over kill, hipereutectic in stength is about haft way between cast and 4032 and has the same exspansion rate. FYI hope this helps. steve

They have as of late been listing stuff on Ebay mostly bars and Wiseco pistons. 50mm 372 and some Stihl pistons can't remember which ones.

I know I've seen them list 044/046 pistons......

I've used Wiesco's for many automotive and drag bike engines over the years. Found the quality to be very, very good. No problems when properly sized and fitted to the application. If I ever need a special piston, they're the first call I'd make. My farm equipment doesn't fit that category, cast pistons are the logical choice. :msp_thumbup:

I will never run a Wiseco piston in any engine I own. I have seem 4 V-Rod engines using Wiseco kits with pistons and sleeves snap skirts right off causing huge damage when they fell into the crankcase. Everytime Wiseco says "that is a first". BS CP Pistons only for me. Much better quality and service.

Unless the specs were changed and they're different than when they first came out, I would STRONGLY recommend not using the Baileys Wiseco pistons. As I mentioned earlier, the 066 piston is too tight in the bore and will scuff. The MS440 piston I had was defective, with the end pins being in the wrong location. I three all 4 or 5 of these pistons I had in the recycle bin. Besides, they're not needed. Even at $50, they're more expensive than a known good piston like a Meteor.

And I like Yotas,,,,,,,,,, I have one with 364K miles on it and ticking,,,, matter of Fact it ticked along for 55 mi. this morning and will do the same on the way home this afternoon!!!!!

Running Mahle In the Drag boat motor now,,, (Pro Stock)
and some Classes use the Weisco's
In Modified Production class... we still run them,,, However they must be fitted properly,,,

I cant see them in A chainsaw moto,,,, over kill!!!!

Nothing against Toyota RR2!! I had a 1999 Tacoma with 180K miles that was super reliable. Only thing it ever needed was tires and plug wires. Still had the original brake pads when I traded it!!

The GF has a Corolla xRS
