I don't know where but I got a hint that a 066 air filter may swap over to a 084.

I wonder if I could replace my box type HD filter with the one above?

or option number 2 below
because I would not like the oiling the foam filter option.
http://maxflowfilters.com/
except don't use the foam filter that comes with the above which requires oiling and swap the foam filter for the 044 type like the one below

Did my post come across as a pondering or as a question.
The seller from the ebay item above responds that his 066 filter will not fit the 084.
Any body know a good filter replacement for a stihl 084?
the maxflow is an old type and requires oiling the filter which I don't find so favorable.

Are you trying to replace the flat type filter with an HD type filter?

I'd like to swap over to this filter.
This ad says
"""""Air Filter for Stihl 044, 046, 064, 066, 084, 088, MS440 - Rep 0000 120 1654""""""
Evidently some of the later 084's came with this 044 style filter.
That is why I am wondering if the max flow filter would work by simply using their back plate and cover but swap the foam that they supply with this 044 filter.
but at 60 bucks and 10 bucks it get expensive to experiment.

This next ad give me the impression that even with my flat box type filter all I need to do is buy their rubber gasket and the 044 filter from the other ad mentioned above to swap over to the 044 style filter. many times these ads get you almost there but leave out the important info such as you need to change your mounting plate and cover. The seller is not allowing any question in the ad.

Or if anyone has any foreknowledge of the above or found a better replacement that they could share.

That's what I thought.

You need the HD filter base part # 48 in the IPL for either the stock HD filter or the Max Flow. No longer available from dealer. You'll have to find a used one.

yes...also nla. like suggested above, find used or get a maxflow
