IMG_1337.JPG IMG_1338.JPG IMG_1339.JPG Not sure what kind of tree this is. Found one log of it in my pile. Had no distinct odor of any kind and is pretty dense.

I was gonna say by the rings it doesn't look dense at all but the picture could skewing the actual size.

Poplar/aspen. Leave it to rot! If wet near the ground it will be gone very fast. Splits like a pain and holds lots of water when fresh. Not worth the effort in my book.

Looks like a hybred poplar we have here. Heavy when wet light when dry. Woof wood we call it. Throw it in the fire, woof, it's gone. Sassafras would have a good smell to it.Does look a bit piney, but that would have a nice smell to it as well.

It's certainly not pine of any sort or poplar, or sassafrass. The Chinese elm or some hyrbridized guess sounds very reasonable. It split easy with straight grains and the splits are heavy.
