Lines cut thru the boreal forest so they can bring in eqpt to conduct seimic testing for oil, (black gold, Texas T variety), natural gas, and prolly other minerals as well. As well they drill down into the sand to ascertain where exactly the best deposits are. This province has oil in the ground everywhere it seems, though a lot of it is locked in sand. Obviously things are getting active in BC as well. You see the lines cut into the forest everywhere especially when flying into Fort McMurray, usually in a grid pattern; I assume they use GPS to site them. Could be a pretty miserable job once the skeeters get active.
