Hi! So I'm a tinkerer (?) by nature and have been getting into small engine repairs. No training, but I've managed to make things work thus far.... SO ANYWAYS I went out and got a haul of chainsaws that people had given up on and was wondering which you guys think are worth investing time and patience in.

Homelite Ranger UT 10530A
Homelite XL (I think)
Stihl 015L
Stihl 034
Jonsereds 510 SP
Echo CS 440
Pioneer 2071
Pioneer 1073
McCulloch Super Pro 81
McCulloch (unknown model, thing is an ancient monster)
Husqvarna 350/351
Husqvarna 45
Husqvarna 245 x torque (I think?)
And one suspicious looking one with no numbers or markings or labels and a very bad custom paint job...

I appreciate any feedback, and potentially any pointers on where to start for diagnostics

Of the ones pictured, I’d pick the 034 and the 350 Husky to start. Both tried and true saws that will serve you well, and parts are cheap and readily available.

The 034 is the easiest to work on of the group and parts are easy to find.
Years ago I worked on a friends 015, they are a PITA to work on and parts aren't easy to find.
Politely disagree. The 350 requires no special tools, and you won't find a saw with cheaper parts. That said, I still like working on an 1125.

I agree with above. I seen Echo's in the shop similar to the one you got there; so I guess people still run those old ones. Might stand to reason parts are gettable.

The 034 is not too far behind an ms 440 on power, and the 350 Husky is by far one of the best firewood saw ever built, when you get them figured out! Lots of info out there on them both!

Well... First off I'm liking the suggestions! I've got the Stihl 034 fired up and running, carb tuned and cleaned, new plug, and flushed the fuel and oil lines. So... First time encountering this, did they make bars for this saw with a wider slot down the centre of the bar for the posts? I can see the remnants of what seems to be a flare out at the bottom of the post that someone went at with an angle grinder?

Homelite Ranger fired up on the 5th pull after putting in new gas. Sprocket is some kinda seriously gouged though, unless they are supposed to have a slot running through them about 5/8 of an inch deep

The Stihl 034 bloody screams at you when she fires up!! I'm running a Small Scale Salvage gig, and need a few saws for some of the guys to use. Trees are already blown down in a huge windstorm here before Christmas. Now I'm sure the Husqy 350 and Stihl 034 will be perfect for the workload, but I need at least one more around that kinda power, and one that can take a 3ft bar... Anything I got on the list viable?

the pioneer and the old mac are something worth fixing if there's nothing major wrong but you will have to hunt parts down.
just about everything you have can be worked on some stuff will take time or could be used as parts a lot of people don't mess with home owner grade stuff but that's a lot of what ends up on my bench.
parts for stihl and Husqvarna seem to be easy enough to get for most models

How about a picture of the other MAC? Thanks, Ron
I put it beside the 034 Stihl as a comparison because the Stihl is the biggest saw I've got. Let's just say that I have a very healthy amount of fear and respect for this thing. I love the aggressive chain on it, tooth every inch

Status update: I have the 034 Stihl running beautifully, it's now my daily use saw.

I had the Husqvarna 350 running briefly after pulling it for about an hour.... Now I can't even manage that. Spark plug is good and clean, so is the air filter. Can smell gas after the first pull with the throttle level in, although it smells pretty lean. I poured a mystery fluid out of both gas and bar oil tanks. A deep dark blue/green colour. Sure don't taste like gas or oil. Any suggestions where I should be looking for issues next? Also, any info or ideas on the fluid would be appreciated :)
