I see both Zama and Walbro Carbs listed for my 044 and 036. Is one of these carbs better than the other and why did stihl use to different carbs? Does stihl still do this? And finally Can you switch from one to the other or do you have to use the one the saw came with?

hey Mack, tell me when you want to come over.

but thay are pretty mauch the same carb except that the 036 has the impulse line in the carb boot, and the 044 has the impulse line go straight on to the carb. no gains there i think.

We should run our ported 036s side by side for some real fun. I do not have much test wood right now though.

That would be great, mine runs real good and I dont think I would change the carb out on it. I will be in Bristol this weekend for the drag race but we do need, I got plenty of test wood, we could have us a small GTG!

As far as I know, The Zamas are basically copies of Walbros, but with the venturi rounded up from xx/64" to the closest mm.

This is something my brother told me some years ago - the info may be outdated.
