Hi all, New to the forum. I am a homeowner who loves trees and grew up on a ranch in my youth spending much of my spare time working on our trees and endlessly chopping firewood. I am not an arborist or expert by any stretch and I have one my favorite trees where the bark split really bad and wanted to get some opinons on the forum on whether this tree is a big safety hazard and needs taken out. I have a good arborist coming in a week to look, but wanted to get some other opinions. I am also curious why this would happen to the pine tree to begin with. It has been oozing sap for 4 years since I moved to my new house in San Diego and with high winds the bark has now cracked pretty bad. Photos attached below. How bad does it look and if it looks super bad and needs to come down, do you think the other trunk could be saved and left in place?
