Can someone please provide existing Poulan 530002577 ring measurements
for the 306 or 361 series?

Anybody tried using the Homelite Super XL rings in the Poulan 306/361?

The bores are nominal 1.812" in the XL & 1.788" Poulan, & both are flat ended so
should be able to file off the extra ~0.075" length to get a proper 0.008" min gap.
Only question is about the ring's "wall" differences, will the grooves be cut
to a different depth in the two manufacturer's pistons.?

Can't use metric type rings because of the different thickness, guessing 1/16" for the
domestic Homeys & Poulans, and then 1.2, 1.5, or 2.5mm for the range of imports.

Update

Feel kinda goofy answering my own question, but i just wanted to let the Poulan 306 owners
know that the Homelite Super XL piston rings from Leonidas the Greek worked fine for
the obsoleted P306 #530002577 substitutes. They are 1.7890" diameter when measured
compressed closed over a 1/16" drill bit. The bit simulates the little groove pin ring keeper in the
piston ring grooves. They are 0.0625" thick & measure 0.070" in wall depth. Only around 0.020"
was all I had to remove to get the 0.008" gap clearance in the 306 bore, again using the drill
bit as a "spacer" with the feeler guage. The old rings measured 1.769" diameter over the bit.

Wasn't overly impressed with the new compression gain (134# new/120# old), but figure they
will seat in better after a few tanks of gas. Runs like a wildcat, and the exhaust tone will split
your ear drums open when it's buried in the wood. Muffs required. No squish check done, jug
was not decked & a stock new jug gasket was used for reassembly.
