    Stihl MS-261 Bar Question

Thank you! That is what it looked like to me but sometimes there are subtle differences that I may not notice. I think that this new bar is a little heavier, but probably not a lot heavier. I can live with that. Looking forward to trying the M-Tronic. When I bought the 261 several years ago...

    Stihl MS-261 Bar Question

I have had a MS-261 with manual carb adjust for several years and love it. Found a good deal on a new M-Tronic version today and went ahead and pulled the trigger. I hope that it is as good as the old one! Because I have several saws with 3/8 chain and make my own loops, I wanted to convert...

    550XP Muffler Mod Thread

I know that there is a ton of info out here on 550xp muffler mods, but I can't seem to find any reports of quantifiable improvements like timed cut comparison before and after the muffler mod. Lots of anecdotal evidence like "really woke up", etc., which sounds good, but doesn't really help me...

    Your thouhts on fuel please

I'm no chemist, so I'll have to leave that one up to someone much smarter than I am. But yes, I would think that might be a possibility. I think that another might be that the plastic tank may be permeated by some of the smaller molecules, leaving behind a more concentrated mixture of the...

    Your thouhts on fuel please

I just stick with 100LL Avgas to be on the safe side. However, in cases where it appears the same gas keeps well one time and not another I'm wondering if the fuel tank on the saw might be a big factor. Anyone notice a difference between an old saw which has a metal fuel tank and one of the...

Who uses seafoam in their fuel?

When I could find ethanol free pump gas, I always used to use premium with 1 oz of Sea Foam per gallon. I always had great luck with that. Since I can't find the ethanol free gas any more, I went to only 100LL avgas in all of my 2-stroke equipment. Granted, the 100 octane may not be optimum...

    Terrible Dilema

Thank You! This sounds like the perfect solution to me.

    Terrible Dilema

    Can you tell from this?

    Now what?

You've got the Stihl and Husky covered. You could have loads of fun with a Dolmar PS-7900.

    Terrible Dilema

I hadn't even thought of that one. I like this idea, but your making this even more complicated.:dizzy:

    Terrible Dilema

Well, I've had the new 346xp for a few weeks now and cut several cords of firewood. I love this saw! However, my wife went Black Friday shopping today and came home with a brand new MS-261. 20% off! What a woman! I'm having trouble deciding what to do now. I certainly don't need 2 50cc...

    Echo CS-400 Chain Options

Update Well, I was in town last night to pick up a few things and was in the local farm and home supply. They are a sort of big box Stihl dealer. They sell lots of them, but don't really know anything if you need help. Anyway, as I walked past the chain saw equipment, I stopped to see if I...

    Echo CS-400 Chain Options

Thanks for the great advice all. Jer75, I was thinking the same thing in ditching the small radius bar. The only problem is that my dad insists that he wants to stay with the 18 inch bar for the little bit of bigger stuff that he cuts. I looked for bars and it appears that the ArborMax and...

    Echo CS-400 Chain Options

I just bought an Echo CS-400 saw for my dad. This seems to be a nice little saw. Starts very easily and runs great. It is not a high end screamer, but seems to have plenty of torque, which brings me to my question. The factory safety chain has to go. I was going to refit it with 63PMC and...

School me on firewood (dirty muddy conditions) chains

+1 vote for Stihl RMC for dirty wood. I also find that it helps to cut so that chain is exiting the cut on the dirtiest side of the wood, rather than dragging the dirt through the cut.

Trying to ruin a new 346xp

Thanks all! I was able to put the saw back together and get the clutch tight before it could loosen up on me this time. Ran about 3 tanks through it today cutting some firewood. I'm sure that it will wake up a little bit after some break-in time, but I'm impressed already. This saw thinks it...

Trying to ruin a new 346xp

I've wanted, but not really needed a 346xp for quite a while now, so I finally pulled the trigger and bought one. I didn't even bother installing the factory bar and chain, but instead swaped out the .325" drive sprocket with a 3/8" sprocket so that I could use 3/8" chain, which I use on my...

    5100 vs CS-530

I have a 5100 which I really love. My brother has a CS-510 Echo. You can't go wrong with either of these. The Echo may not be quite as fast, but starts easier and in my opinion is generally made better and will last longer. The Dolmar is a little more fun.

How long will AvGas actually store?

I don't have a real scientific reason for this, but I don't think that I would put the stabilizer in avgas. Just my 2 cents worth.

    Is there a difference?

It should be as Adam says. Better information, setup, repairs, parts, etc. when buying from a dealer. Unfortunately, in my area, and I believe in many others, a good dealer is very hard to find. In my experience, saws, ATVs, or any other OPE, the best place to by is where you can take the...
