    Rope protector/cambium saver

I posted this on TCI and will post it here. These NOS connectors have the desired ends (ground cones) in them for the ultra-flexible metal conduit... Ebay Item

    The Evolution of an Invention

I'd predict you'll eventually have to abandon the backpack concept unless the working assembly could alternately be pulled around front for inspection. Those ratcheting wrenches could have footstraps hung from them.

    yo-yo help

So what is the measured gap? Even the Petzl datasheet doesn't say. It looks like it might be something like 9mm.

    Gear Lust......

The sad fact is that the two terms are used interchangeably by most tree people to mean either secured foot-lock or doubled-rope. No tree person gives even a thought to the mountain climbing two-rope meaning.

So the end gap between the plates is too small for the rope? You can't add or remove the pulley from the rope in mid-line?

    yo-yo help

So a Petzl Fixe pulley won't even fit over a rope? I've never looked at one up close but I just presumed that the end gap would be large enough.

    Load ratings of climbing equipment?

You could quibble about the top point he makes here. I don't think this is correct. A kilogram is not defined as a force. It is a measure of mass. Something that is 1 Kg on earth is still 1 Kg on the moon. In the English system you would convert kilograms to Slugs. The "small deviation" is due...

    GriGri & 13mm

When I first heard that Petzl was introducing the "RIG" I thought it might be a GriGri for 13mm -- but no. The "Rig" is just their "professional series" GriGri and only rated up to 11.5mm (0.5mm more than GriGri).

    Rope protector/cambium saver

Well, I'll have to search online. I bought some of the conduit last Summer but the ground cones I remember someone saying were not available in quantities less than 100. Buying the whole 5333 connector is about $5 extra for each ground cone.

Moss, if you have bought a 100 of these I would be glad to buy a few off of you. I had thought you probably used the 1/2" version.

    Rope protector/cambium saver

Oh, you want a temporary cheat? Go get a length of cardboard. Roll it around your rope and wrap some duct tape around it. This idea courtesy of TCC's JimK.

http://www.newtribe.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=31_57&products_id=281 A standard $20 leather sleeve will certainly outlast them but for ease of installation and low friction these are really nice.

So Moray, will the typical hitch slide down and save your spine?

    Home made friction saver

If you have poor judgment you'll probably kill yourself one way or another and probably while out driving. If you have good judgment then you ought to be able to tell if the thing you made is safe or not and test it if needed.

Heck you can even google "nick splice" and find him.

    Best Static SRT Line?

I don't climb SRT but I thought the favorites at the moment were Poison ivy or Tachyon or one of the static kernmantles like Sterling HTP.

    Home made friction saver

The only thought I would have goes back to the question of stiffness which was mentioned earlier in this thread. In order to get the FS into position and to retrieve it (from the ground) you might need to stiffen the ends of the rope or webbing in some manner to make it less likely to get stuck.
