Need help with 74 JD 440B axle planetary

Redoing the axle seals and bearing in the rear axle of my 440B and the directions I have in my book are not working. When I torque the axle bolt the planetary becomes impossible to move so it’s far too tight. Need someone experienced in tearing these apart and putting them back together to help...

Need some help with old hay elevator converting for wood.

May have found my issue or at least something else that needs to be fixed. Last picture you can see the seam where it was put together. The paddles catch that every time. Nothing has broke yet but I’m gonna get some tin or rubber roofing and span the gap so they don’t catch. After that we will...

Need some help with old hay elevator converting for wood.

Will do, I got pulled off the conveyor to fix my splitter. It’s a few miles from my place but I’ll get a bunch for you. Anything you want me to focus on?

Need some help with old hay elevator converting for wood.

I’ve had the chain break else where too. The paddles that came with it where not enough to bother with. So we had tried using the tin ones we had made up but they where loose and would fall off or get stuck else where. So I welded in all the paddles you see now a lot are on tabs more than the...

Typically it pops the breaker on the generator but I’ll loosen the belt more. I take it on and off by hand.

Need some help with old hay elevator converting for wood.

Enough tension to keep the bottom from dragging. I have the flights measured out to be even and square with each other. I’ve welded all of my paddles on which has caused issues but so far no broken links or welds. All the paddles are the same width. Once I get a chance to get to it, I’ll take...

Need some help with old hay elevator converting for wood.

The bottom of the chain is flat from wear. I broke a link the other day just using a come along to join the chain. Here is an example broke the barrel right off but they typically break on the long skinny sides. If I could get a 10 sec video to post of it running I would.

Need some help with old hay elevator converting for wood.

So I finally have a lot of time on my hands recently so I dragged my elevator out of the weeds to get it going again. Put the old electric motor on it came with, welded new paddles in and have had it run for two hours straight without snapping the chain. Top one was the last straw last night...

Need some help with old hay elevator converting for wood.

Hey guys been along time since I’ve been on but I’d figure I would add to this thread I started instead of making a new one.

    My log splitter build

Do you have issues with your split wood getting stuck in that hay elevator? I have one but seem to have the wood get stuck more often then not.

    My log splitter build

Haven’t posted in a long while. Here is a video of my newest revised setup. As you can see the square tubing is being added after I bent the back stop. Not one of my smartest ideas to run it without reinforcing it a lot better.
