When do you start lowering your prices?

Talk to your clients. Ask them politely why they went with your competitors; highly likely you will learn how to adapt. But, don’t get into a mindset of undercutting to get the job as that is just a race to the bottom. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

    Ronin lift or GRCS

I have both devices. Apples and Oranges. Ronin is fantastic if you are on a job where many long climbs are required (eg removing a single branch / dead wood). If it is a straight up and down, with no need to detach the ronin (which is a pain) then it’s a great choice and we use it lots. For...

    Insurance

Make sure that your insurance is not capped - i.e to trees no taller than 60ft. I have noticed some of the cheaper insurance has started to do that. The other thing cheaper insurance lacks is the cover to ‘fell’ trees. It just covers ‘trimming’. Games... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Which saddle and why

Monkey Beaver. Great padded back support and clearly a very high quality production. Gear loops are thought out. Owned a tree motion (still have it) but this is my professional day—n-day saddle. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Bonding

I carry liability insurance and also workers comp (don’t have to as 2 person company but feels the ‘right’ thing to do). Lately, I have had some clients asking if I am also bonded. I am interested to see if any of you wonderful people out there are bonded? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Art Positioner 2 on CELanyard?

Before I commit heresy what do people think about removing the Prussik and pinto pulley from a brand new celanyard and instead adding an art 2 pos to it? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Helping identify this disease / fungus

I have a customer who has a white oak. Appears very healthy in crown and is mature. However, a butt root is exhibiting a black discoloration which has a foul odour. Advise appreciated. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    deadly fall

Firstly, so tragic and thoughts to the family. I keep hearing issues about rope bridges breaking. Worrying. I don’t remember D rings presenting the same issues? Is it the increased vector force on a tight rope bridge? How often do you all change the bridge - even when it looks ok? Sent...

The question I have ever asked but often think about

Context: Dead tree. Too dangerous to climb but there is access to nearby trees. Attatch lifeline to nearby safe tree and descend / traverse to dead tree. The question: If working the dead tree, so thereby having some form of secondary attatchement to it, and it suddenly compromises / falls /...

Best place to buy climbing gear.

I have found myself buying from honeybrothers.com in the UK. I used them when I lived there (28 years ago). They are always stocked. Treestuff is my go to place, but when they are out of stock I go to honey brothers. Delivery in 2 or 3 days! And the exchange rate is giving purchase power. Sent...

Rope walking but not just with my legs..

Ok, I have - treemotion harness, roperunner attached to a swivel pulley on the bridge. A chest harness to tether. CM foot ascender on right foot and HAAS velox on left leg. I don’t look like Mark Chilsom walking up the rope!! I get there but find I have to also pull my weight up using my...

New guy with double tie in question

I started life in the tree business before moving into IRATA (and becoming a level 3). Now I have returned to the tree business and moved to SRT. In short, I understand your desire to mirror IRATA two rope (not double rope...) SRT techniques in the tree. The long and short, is that you are best...

Best size saws to start business

Agreed. Useful to also have a 20” bar for the 461 in case your top handle gives you jip in the day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Big chunks (25”), vertical speed-line and advice sought.

I have been taking a 130ft pine down using a near vertical speed line. This is to avoid a fence on one side of the tree. So far so good - now down to the last 70ft where the rounds are 25” diameter. The issue I have is in the weight of the rounds and struggling to lift them off so that they...
