What's the big deal with the big dogs?

Big dogs are like carrying a gun. Most of the time you don't need it, but when you realize you need it, you need it. Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. Get 1 size bigger bar and the bigger dogs and you end up exactly the same usable bar length with a more...

Silver Maple near Driveway - 50/50 fall risk. 2nd opinion.

I would be getting rid of that tree no doubt. Really bad spot for a tree and there's no doubt where those stems are going to land. It's not going to be cheap either...

    Stihl 500i long term storage

The title of this thread includes 'long term storage'. You believe a few months over winter is long term? I don't and I don't think most people would. I won't even waste my time replying in depth to the other statements because you have no idea what I do, and that's blatantly clear. Because...

    Stihl 500i long term storage

I'm not the one claiming that I can leave gas in saws for years without gumming up. How would I tell you how you do it? I've seen it happen a lot...so, it absolutely does happen. So to tell people to not run their saws dry with the only evidence being 'it doesn't happen to me' is ridiculous...

    338 XPT won't idle

I've never had an inconsistent idle problem be a coil issue. That's not to say it's impossible...but almost always what you're describing is caused by an air leak. If you can't or don't have the equipment to run a pressure test on the saw, you can do the following: Run the saw, spray some...

    Stihl 500i long term storage

Tell me why every chainsaw/weedeater/blower/generator/etc I get from craigslist non-running that was left with gas in it won't run for **** until I clean out the carb from all the **** gas left in it?

    338 XPT won't idle

Depends on where it's leaking. If it's just an intake boot...probably worth it. If it's crank seals, and you can do the work yourself....and you really like/want the saw....maybe worth it. If you have to have a shop fix it, probably not worth it.

    338 XPT won't idle

Air leak. You need to do a pressure test. If it's not the crank seals, it's an intake boot or something. It's sucking air from somewhere other than the carb.

    462 or 572?

I've run both. I have about 10 tanks on a 572 and a ton of time on a 462 because I bought one...I did end up selling my 462 because I bought a 500i and didn't pick up the 462 after that. Plus, my buddy needed a bigger saw so I got him a good deal on it. In my opinion....I didn't see any...

    The Perfect Gas Can…

For chainsaws and OPE with small tanks they're perfect. I have a 1.5 gallon and a 2.5 gallon

So what do you guys think about your first autotune or mtronic saw after you have ran regular carbs for years??

I feel like some people here should go back to axes and crosscut saws. They can take their horse to the job :D

So what do you guys think about your first autotune or mtronic saw after you have ran regular carbs for years??

Late to this thread, but I prefer the m-tronic over old carbs. I can properly tune an old carb...however, spending less time tuning a carb and more time cutting is just fine with me.

    Making ribs this week!

Nope...because I'll always compare them to smoked ribs and they just don't compare. It's all good though, we don't have to like the same things. I'm sure lots of people like and enjoy baked ribs.

People tell me the same thing about well done steak....lol

    Making ribs this week!

Walt, you need a smoker. Ribs without a smoker is like a chainsaw without a chain. It still runs...but it just ain't right! I am envious of that stove though....very nice.

    Stihl Flippy Cap solution

If you can't figure out and work flippy caps, you shouldn't be running a saw.

Do I need more than just a rope to climb?

The answer is yes. You can climb trees with just a rope. You can tie a rope into a make shift harness. You can climb on a closed Blakes hitch over a natural crotch using the hip thrust technique. You don't absolutely need a carabiner either. I did it when I was teaching myself about...
