    Score 3 years of Firewood!

Nice haul of oak you got there. Just they way I do it, but I'd quarter and/or split those rounds right where you bucked 'em. Makes 'em a lot easier to move, store and dry.

May 23 and I just lit the stove!

Warm today but highs in the mid fifties tomorrow. That Michigan weather is heading this way. Temps in the forties so the garden will be safe. Probably will light the fire tomorrow.

    Who Would Have Guessed

They may have scrapped it but they may be using it to haul scrap. If so, you'll probably be able to find out at the scrap yards. The fact that you have a picture of it is a big help. Be careful if you find them. They'll probably attack and you'll have to defend your life with a big ol' hickory...

    carpenter ants

I hang a couple of birdfeeders by my woodpiles and keep them filled. If you can keep birds around the bugs will be lunch. As far as indoors, I use the baits from acompany called Terro. They work great!

    Typical number of cords

Right now I just have a fireplace with two heatalators built into the masonary. This past year I burned about two cords. I just got a Lopi Freedom insert (free) that needed to be cleaned up. New firebrick, sand and paint and it's good as new. I'll be installing it next month so next season...

Mid May 2013 & still burning

I always like burning wood but this kind of weather plays hell on the garden. I have about 400 plants in the ground that I started from seed back in mid march. We got hit with a frost last night but I don't think it did much damage. Time will tell I guess.

    Wood ID...hickory?

In the fourth picture, the two pieces in the back of the truck, the right one looks like ash but the left one looks like white oak to me. Maybe it's just my old eyes but I just split a bunch of white oak yesterday that looked just like that.

    59 inch oak
