    Competant testing policy? sorry to say but if you have the ability to write a cheque payable to NPTC, you are deemed competant, you'll find that is a very touchy subject in this country amongst the experienced operators who 10 or 12 years ago were deemed incompetant until approved by an accessor...

    Go prune a small "lets say 20' cherry or ash......whatever" you'll find you can climb perfectly well without ropes and harness, there is a critical point ......... and thats a natural fear of heights......., we were not designed to climb trees, however some of us in the eyes of some onlookers...

    It was a large forked tree and i didnt trust the tie ins and needed some self assurance, so therefore the open but well watched screw gates, I know no one would normally leave a screw gate open but it gave me some peace of mind at the time. Jock
