    Stihl MS 400 and a 25” bar

They were just under $8 when I bought them last year. Wish I'd known about it years ago, my 260 was chronically stingy & I cooked a bar or two (running a 20", which was kinda silly) bsck then... the bolt fixed that right up, too.

    Stihl MS 400 and a 25” bar

If it's slinging a thin line of oil, IMO that's enough. I did the same test with mine when I got it (my 260 that I've had for decades was also a stingy oiler) and it barely put spatters on cardboard maxed out. I guess there's some variability in there. I just did the adjuster since it was...

    Stihl MS 400 and a 25” bar

I've replaced the piston before too, it's not difficult for me, either... but I'm also not new at mechanical things.

    Stihl MS 400 and a 25” bar

1128 640 3250 is the whole oil pump. 1128 647 4803 is just the control bolt. Replacing the control bolt isn't as easy as swapping the pump... but it's not difficult, and it's 10% of the price. Replacing the piston is a good bit more work, and if you were doing that you almost might as well...

    Stihl MS 400 and a 25” bar

I bought mine with a 25" Light bar on it. Not sure I'd say that it definitely didn't oil enough, but it definitely didn't oil enough for my taste on a >$150 bar. I installed just the HO adjustment screw, and that was more than enough, if I maxed it out I could drain the oil tank well before...

    Stihl 026 crank seals

Ebay ain't free, and neither is shipping... even shipping on ebay isn't free, since they started charging fees on shipping to close that loophole years ago. I bought a bunch of little stuff last year, from my kinda-local favorite dealer. A little fixing up my old 260, a little swapping parts on...

    Stihls Own Branded Plug?

Didn't remember I'd already put it on Google Drive, but there it is!

    Stihls Own Branded Plug?

Stocking levels depend on the store, or perhaps the district. Some still stock reasonable things. Or at least try to, "supply chain shortages" are absolutely still a thing... shouldn't be with calipers much, although I occasionally see it with brake pads. Or it could just be stuff that, sorry...

Shelves getting bare at saw shop.

I've visited a Stihl-dealing Ace & my local dealer recently. Ace was thin on saws & hard accessories like files & stuff. Local dealer didn't have room for a ton of saws, but what they had out filled the shelves, including surprisingly a 500i. Didn't pay attention to lubes, but their hard...

    Media Cat Chain Letter

I uploaded to mediafire.com, it worked faster than the one 'mule posted. Unfortunately the CD image I had saved seems to be missing stuff. If anyone could upload a good copy of the CD (either zip the CD folder, or make an ISO of the disc) that would be awesome.

    Media Cat Chain Letter

Sorry about that. I've made 4 or 5 copies that same way, and they all came out fine AFAIK. I zipped my disc image folder and it's uploading to filehosting.org right now, only came to 75MB or so. I'll PM the link when it's done uploading.

    Media Cat Chain Letter

No problem, sorry I took so freaking long to send it... Just remember to make sure the computer's date it set to 2007 before you try to install/run it!

    Media Cat Chain Letter

I'll get that sent out sometime this week. BTW, you left it on my visitor messages, I deleted it for ya. :D

    Deal or No Deal!

If you don't want it, tell him I'll give him $51 for it. :D

    MS260 Pro oil pump problem

OK, I guess this isn't a very common problem then  My dealer quoted me about $90 for a new pump this morning :dizzy:, so I guess I'll just stick with my fix and the new hard plastic output hose I put in, and hope it keeps working. If not, off to ebay for a used pump...

Is it worth it? 044/046 fixer upper

I hate you! I was kind of thinking the same... it seems like a killer deal at first, but even without needing a top end I'd probably be looking at $200+ in hard parts to make it decent, plus whatever little stuff (carb kit, hoses, etc.) it needs to run, and that could easily add up to...

Is it worth it? 044/046 fixer upper

I stopped in my local pawn shop today, and they have a very rough looking 044 or 046 on the floor... for $195. The plastic looks awful (and is missing the model badge), the clutch cover is broken in a couple places, and the handle/tank will probably need to be replaced. It does have a 3/4 wrap...

    026

Probably not, but it's not really a big deal either way. I have an early-'03 260 Pro, and it had a single-screw carb on it. Some older 026s and some newer 260s (pro and non) have two-screw carbs. I picked up a WT426 for about $30 on ebay, and sold my fixed-H carb for around $25, and the correct...

    MS260 Pro oil pump problem

The adjustable oil pump on my MS260 Pro decided not to work yesterday... it wouldn't put out squat for oil (though a tiny bit was flowing out from the output), and the control bolt would just spin and spin rather than only turning 1/4 turn or so. I took it apart this morning, and figured out...
