Unit of 2X4s for wood fuel

A log truck driver told me last week that banded units of 8 foot duglas fir 2X4s (stud grade) are cheaper than cords of douglas fir firewood. I seen the low end 2X4s for $1.49 at a home center. I don't think they burn as well because of the charring effect (when they fit too close...

    couple of questions

I agree with keith and; when you fit the new pipe, make sure the upper sections fit into the lower sections. You want any burning/oozing material to stay contained in the system. The creek, try cofer dams. Lots of used stuff out there. Verticle interlocking panels can handle lots of...

    Chain recommendations?

I think Borepig is on the money; keep it stock. At least until the warranty expires. The loggers out here talk about diferent types of chains, they have their own dang language. Full chizzle for sure. Shop around for sure. Some chain buzz words I've heard: anti kickback, chipper...

Not all class A is created equal nor UL listed

All that info checks out with my code books; 2006 International Residential Coce (IRC). Not only are they jepardizing their family's safety but that of first responders as well.

How long can you hold out?

I fell off the wagon and was dragged by it tonight; 49 degrees out. The first few weeks of burning are usually the odds and ends of all the wood I cut. Love hearing the stove heat up.

How much per hour would you charge to split wood??

Free for one of my neighbors (best in the world) $65/hr for me to run any of my gas powered equipment. Clock starts when I leave my shop. Needless to say; not many calls...breaks my heart.

The rain stopped, a cool front is here...and...

Today is the last day of sunshine in the Great Northwest. The "faucet" turns on tomorrow (just in time for deer season). Rain and low 60s all week.

    SPLITTERS>what name brand is BEST??

The ONLY tools I wish I never paid for are today's Troybuilt products. Soft metal, infierior springs and rubber. The ONLY things good on my troybuilt splitter is the Briggs and Stratton Engine and the NAPA oil filter. I use my troybuilt grass trimmer for stress management in the shop.

How late in the year do you cut/split?

    close one today

My cows give me a little trouble; they seem to wanna go stand right where the maple tree is going to hit the ground. What was that game? Three flies and your'e out? Delimbing last week my 610 binded in a 40 footer, while trying to work it out, I cracked the aluminum housing where the handle...

    Through floor ventilation.

Way to go on the thermocouple, I run one on the flood lamp down in the well house. I drilled a little peep hole so I can see if the light is on from the house. Is the fan quiet?

annoyed with public land cutters (a venting exercise)

Too much trash in Oregon too. Despite all the volunteers on the beaches, the hills are neglected. My complaint is to the city slickers that come up for the day, leave their shell casings, targets of all kinds and McDonald Bags. I love to shoot and enjoy all the priviledges of public land...

Owner.contractor sentenced for fire fighter deaths

You are right; in my two year building inspection college program we had numerous guest speakers (all in bed with the regulatory bodies (ICC). The "UL" guy seemd to be the worst. Once the agency adopts a UL, ANSI etc standard, the code books add them to the criteria. The list of work...

A good start on Winter 2010-2011

Exactly; renuawable ranching, they fertilize the soil and eat the maple, I cut the maple to buy toys and stay warm, I sell one steer that almost pays for everything, I get a full freezer, and the maples are hard to kill...cut one and fifty sprout. Never ending cycle.
