Seeking troubleshooting assistance - Jonsered CS2159

Saw is approx. 2005 vintage, not used for 2-3 years, stored w/o gas. Mixed fresh premium gas 50:1. Exhibiting low power, and when it gets warmed up it stalls and won't start, as seen here: jonsered_hot_restart_attempt. It's not the plug and not the air cleaner (same problems even w/cleaner...

    Splicing TrueBlue??

Pulled my not-too-often-used TrueBlue out of the bag to rig a limb yesterday only to find that a mouse has compromised it in several places. I hate to trash it, as it's in excellent shape except for where the rodent chewed on it. I'm assuming I could splice this, but before I make the...

    Stihl MS182T, serial 279879701

Just had a kid, approx 17 y/o, try to sell me this saw ($150). Had no proof of purchase, said he bought it online from stihlusa.com (uhh, yeah, right!). He claimed to have bought it for his Dad "but it was the wrong model". I asked if his father was in the tree industry in any way (answer was...

    tying the VT

Hey, one more followup, anyone have experience with either of the flavors (5/16" or 3/8") of Bee-Line in a VT on 1/2" rope? I think the 5/16 sounds like better stuff, but Yale sorta weakly suggests 3/8 on 1/2", and the voice of experience would be helpful.

    tying the VT

I kinda expected this might be the case. I guess this means the eye to eye is at a disadvantage compared to tying a buntline. Thx for the input.

    tying the VT

One of the forum sponsors sells Bee-Line eye to eye tails in different lengths. What's the recommended length when tying to a 1/2 rope, and do you recommend 8mm or 10mm?

Liverpool (NY) homeowner dies cutting tree

Another sad story. Painful to visualize a family member finding him, all the more so on the eve of Thanksgiving. Condolences to the family. http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2009/11/liverpool_man_dies_after_tree.html

    chainsaw doesn't cut straight

Appreciate the clarification, now I understand. Appreciate the input but while what's driving this discussion is that the saw doesn't cut straight, the real trouble I'm describing is the thickness of the groove in the bar. The chains I'm running have been checked closely, and are very even...

    chainsaw doesn't cut straight

Yeah, I flip the bar every time I cut. Paint / lacquer ?? Are we talking the same thing? I'm measuring the inside dimension of the groove with a feeler, like as shown in the 1st photo below. The other photos are of the same bar, showing light usage and a bar that appears to be in good...

    chainsaw doesn't cut straight

Seeking some more input, the response to my attempts to resolve this with Windsor includes their statement "The groove spec for a .058 gauge bar is .062” in the new material condition. With the amount of cutting you have described the groove could be worn to .065” at the top of the rails where...

    chainsaw doesn't cut straight

I've searched the Oregon and Windsor websites (my bar is a Windsor), and I've searched through this forum, and maybe I've missed it, but I haven't been able to find what the thickness of the gap between bar rails should be for a .058 chain. My bar measures about .065 with a feeler gage. I'm...

    Died during takedown - 14-Feb-09

http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2009/02/man_injured_while_cutting_tree.html Sounds like the limb swung somehow other than he thought it would. Sad. Twenty-five is way too young!

    Weird splits

How about some photos of unusual stuff while splitting firewood. Here's something that happened today. Whacked the log with a maul, appeared to be a clean split, but when I looked at one of the pieces, it had a stub sticking out. Turns out the core of a limb popped out of its surrounding...

    question about generator

Great line! Brutally honest, and it completely captures the thought. As to the idea of using the warm engine's heat to warm the cold engines, Garfield is correct, this would heat the cold engines much more quickly than electric heaters (water jacket cast into the block runs throughout the...

I knew the was a reason why I hate Vice grips

It's worse than you think This greed thing that is the driving force behind what's now made Vice-Grips the latest in a continuing stream of businesses abandoning U.S. manufacturing plants is having a profound effect on the nature of the U.S. economy, and it's really terrifying. Fifty years...

    Jred 2159 questions

Thx for the good directions. The manual should prove very helpful. And thx for this info too. Any additional voices of experience out there, relative either to replacing the muffler or modding it? Also, anybody have any real data relating to operation with either/both of these...

    Jred 2159 questions

Yeah, I'm not concerned with the typical oil slick that I've seen from my saws in the past. This was an exceptional amount of oil. Had to put a thick section of newspaper under it to stand it upright, as oil was coming out of the area where it had accumulated inside the clutch cover fast...

Jonsereds CS 2138C Turbo - Jonsereds or Poulan ?

This is a variation on what corporate America refers to as an "OEM agreement" ((O)riginal (E)quipment (M)anufacturer) Generally, when for whatever reason a company doesn't want to invest in manufacturing an item but they want to be in the business of selling it, they arrange to buy it from...
