Is the Kumma my only real option?

The Drolet Heat Commander and the Kuuma VF100 are the only 2 forced air wood furnaces that you should even consider...the one Firechief model left now is too small, and has a poor track record, at best. Anything else you find out there is not EPA approved, and just flying under the radar until...

    (Indoor) Wood Furnace suggestions

Agreed...and never said that it does...if you read it again I said to modify to accommodate the Kuuma or HC...nothing about any of those other low end bombs. To OP, sounds like a good solve...if you like the one you have, run what you brung!

    (Indoor) Wood Furnace suggestions

There is no way I'm buying a furnace that is being sold illegally...if they aren't willing to put in the work to get their stuff certified its pretty obvious they don't plan on being around long...once EPA catches up with them its game over. Modify your setup to accommodate the Kuuma or HC.

    Ceramic fiberboard question

FYI, if you still have that old one laying around, you can carefully glue it back together with furnace cement, it works very well...might be worth keeping around as a spare.

    Toying with making a change...

So reading between the lines here, sounds like you would be looking to buy an "old school" boiler? Modern (read: efficient) boilers still need cut/split wood that is ~20% dry and don't like "junk" too well...if this is the case, be prepared to make a lot more wood than you are now. Plus I don't...

Creosote build up on chimney cap help

The trick is to find a cap with screen that is small enough to keep the birds out in the summer, and not plug up in the winter...that's what has worked for me.

    Fire Chief FC1000

If you have a proper chimney, and had a half decent furnace, you wouldn't need an AD-1. I know of exactly 1 person that is 100% happy with his SF1000E...I guess that falls under even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while. That, and we'll see how it shakes out for him after running it 3-5...

    Looking for a Wood furnace...Again

Yeah I think we are about done here too...fire has been out for a few days now, no signs of needing one in the extended forecast either...

    Looking for a Wood furnace...Again

Well, glad its working for you...come give us a 5 year follow-up report, if you still have it by then.

    Looking for a Wood furnace...Again

Well, as for what's available new right now, 2 models that are contenders, the one with a long spotless track record is the Kuuma VF100, and then there is the first year model (with positive feedback so far) Drolet Heat Commander. Keep in mind you can get a 26% tax credit on these models this...

    Looking for a Wood furnace...Again

Well "loophole" may not be the best description, but basically these EPA bureaucrats don't understand how a wood furnace is normally used/run, and HY-C (parent company) has them convinced that SOP is to "stoke the fire" by the Tstat calling for heat every so many minutes...which may be true on a...

    Looking for a Wood furnace...Again

Yep, and there have been quite a few reports of the front of the furnace glowing red hot during these "ballz out" sessions too...and then subsequent cracked/warped firebox components. Oh, and their second EPA test is in question now too! Once the EPA closes the loophole that HY-C is exploiting...

Wood consumption - OWB vs add-on wood furnace

Purchasing the OWB is only half of the overall cost typically...all the little things needed for install really add up! And you will burn twice as much wood in an OWB as with a Kuuma furnace.

    Which add-on wood furnace?

If you are thinking Kuuma at all, now is the time...material costs keep rising, and for 2021 there is now a 26% tax credit on clean burn heaters...including installation costs too! http://www.timberjay.com/stories/lamppa-stoves-now-more-affordable,17203

First post: fighting a wood furnace.

A single 10" is not much airflow unless this is a small low BTU furnace...and not much airflow for the building you describe either. Then the return air duct should be ~20% larger than whatever the supply duct is too.

First post: fighting a wood furnace.

Possibly a poor furnace design? Wet wood, an inefficient outdoor installation, and high heat load = cold home. BTW, what is a "stoker fan"?

    Which add-on wood furnace?

Yes...heck, that isn't even a complete list! (Edit: updated) If I were hard up for money and had to go back to a (modded: think DIY Heat Commander) Tundra, I would be OK with that...plan on sticking with the Kuuma though! The Yukon(s) were capable of huge BTU's, but a dirty...
