    Saw won't idle down?

Did you try loosening the screw and centering the throttle plate? Whenever I have to remove/replace a throttle or choke butterfly I always find it necessary to fiddle a bit and get them properly located. Mark

    McCulloch Chain Saws

The 440 is an interesting saw, top tank like the 7XX models but built on the 87cc front tank block. Right hand start is awkward for some folks. I have a couple in pretty good condition, I don't think I paid more than $150 for one but that's been more than 14 years ago. This one came from...

    Vintage Chainsaw Museum

Von Ruden hydraulic saw, now located in the display. I cleaned up these two Skil saws this week. We're running out of room on the shelves now days so we've started hanging some in between levels. Lil' Jon and White 19 are also in suspension. Mall and Remington electric saws...

    What's on your bench

We cleaned up a few of the saws I recently picked up at auction. First up, Von Ruden hydraulic saw. The Mall and Remington are very closely related. Mark

    Jonsered Chainsaws

I check the resistance of the primary and secondary windings. Primary were fine, but secondary were open. I did remove the plug wire (unscrews from the coil) and even checking the stud in the bottom of the coil directly it was open. Mark

    Jonsered Chainsaws

Your has a much nicer looking muffler, appears to be cast aluminum, mine is just stamped steel. Cleaned up O.K. but the coil is bad so I won't get to hear this one run for a while, at least until I can find a donor saw. Mark

    Jonsered Chainsaws

Not a Jonsered but sold as being one. Needed a good cleaning. That took longer that I expected. I find it helps to lay things out so I remember where the fasteners go, etc. as the saws are reassembled. Mark

    What's on your bench

Someone dropped off these two small Skil models, thought I'd give them a bit of a clean up before putting them in the display. They are pretty interesting the way they are designed and put together. Not bad to work on since I didn't have to try and get into the oilers. One has...

    McCulloch Chain Saws

Generally speaking, the thin ring models were hot rods compared to their thick ring counterparts. I have a 1-72 that I have run a bit, I thought is pulled as well as the 066 Stihl that I had rebuilt with a new piston. I picked up a bunch of saws from Woody Strommen last year (maybe two years...

    mculloch sp80 help needed

@flatsfisher is in Florida, that's all I know. Most likely you need to pull the flywheel and clean the points, not a difficult task for you to do yourself. Mark

    6 spline vs 7 spline

This is a 6 spline drum and .404 8T sprocket. Sorry Chris, all I have is a few more 8T .404 sprockets to fit those drums. This is a 7 spline standard (alternately called large spline); the O.D. of the hub (not the splines) is 7/8". Why did Homelite choose the 6 spline, why did...

    6 spline vs 7 spline

If you are in need of a 6 spline drum, or .404 sprocket to go with it I have a few of each. Mark

    2 stroke testing equipment.

stihltech - I saved this from my working days, I am sure you could probably add a few tips. #1, #7, and #8 are particularly applicable. How to get better service on your machine 1) Do not call for service until everyone concerned has had time to form an opinion as to what is wrong. Allow each...

    McCulloch Chain Saws

I believe they referred to that as a "weep hole", intended to drain any leakage from the crankshaft seal away from the points box. The second seal was insurance that the points stayed clean. I know some guys do not use two seals when they put the big saws together since the AM seals that fit...
