    Help ID'ing this wood

Same piece of wood just a pic taken from each side. This doesn't seem like pine to me, def not by smell that's why I thought poplar.

Hi guys, I got a good bit of this mixed in with the cord of "hardwood" I just got. It's pretty light, splits easy and burns hot... I'm thinking poplar but I'm not nearly as good as u guys. Let me know what u think.

Black Cherry in the Lancaster, Pa area

I got a cord of wood today that has a bunch of cherry in it, I think I'll give it a try. Looks like a pretty long drive where you guys on here are located. Lehigh valley looks like about 2 1/2-3 hour round trip. If I remember right, Farmer Steve was on the other side of York, Pa... prob close to...

Black Cherry in the Lancaster, Pa area

I'll be in the woods in the North West of PA hunting a bear on the 17th, thanks for the offer though! I've done some reading up on it and it's not an issue, the cyanide is a product of digestion. Animals should not eat the leaves. https://smokingmeatgeeks.com/smoking-cherry-wood/ That's...

Black Cherry in the Lancaster, Pa area

Hi Steve, I believe some call it "Wild Black Cherry" too. It's the stuff that is usually found along fence lines. It spreads like crazy, we've had a bunch pop up from the our tree that was cut down. I literally had 5 cords years ago from the school cutting down all the trees on their property...

    Help ID'ing oak

Thanks, moondoggie! That was one of the first things I read. I'm going to give it a try. I did not realize there's different kinds of white oak, I'm glad I ran I to this... I should be able to ID white oak going forward. I've got a lot of red in the past. Lots of pin oak lady year. A couple more...

    Help ID'ing oak

I searched the topic, from what I read white oak doesn't have any red tint to it and the bark is more coarse and deeper. Most of the overpriced bundle was red oak with just 2 of the 5 pieces being what I thought was red. I want to try aging some white liquor, American white oak is what's...

Need some help ID'ing what was sold as Hickory

Thank you for the offer! We've been low-key about it. My wife works for Lancaster General so we have great insurance and I have a decent job. We're in good shape and her last surgery was in the end of October so she's healed up pretty well. To answer your question, we boarder Manheim twsp high...

Need some help ID'ing what was sold as Hickory

Thank you, Sir...I'm going to move on from the hickory though. It was something the wife said she liked so I thought I'd get some for the holidays. She's had a tough year with chemo, radiation, surgery....I try to do the little things. I'm going to start looking for a new cord or two of mixed...

Need some help ID'ing what was sold as Hickory

I questioned the seller point-blank about it being hickory. His response was he's been selling firewood for X years...... I said I've never seen hickory look like that but he insisted it was. I'm the last person to think I know everything so I second guessed myself. My point is that I had enough...

Need some help ID'ing what was sold as Hickory

I had about 6 cords of cherry from trees cut down on the high school property adjacent to my yard. I burned it for a few years I had that much. It's really good smelling wood, I found myself opening the door quickly pulling a bit of smoke out, I like the smell of wood burning as does the Mrs.

Need some help ID'ing what was sold as Hickory

You're not big on yourself much, are you? I'm reading 3 pages into this thread and still am hearing what it could or could not be. You might think you're that bright but you have no clue to what you're buying on a daily basis. Here's an idea, sell what you advertise.

Need some help ID'ing what was sold as Hickory

Just wanted to say thank you to all those that chimed in to help me on this. I've never come across Gum but have hickory and it really didn't look the part to me. I called the guy and he said "That's what they told me it was!". I said that it didn't look like it to me and that I posted pics to a...

Thank you, Steve. Since I'm not smoking anything with it I'm going to say the heck with it. That's a very nice offer and I appreciate it. I'm getting ready to call the seller, can't wait to hear what he has to say.

Need some help ID'ing what was sold as Hickory

Thank you, sir. I don't buy by price and I'd def stay with someone once I find an honest seller. Around thanksgiving I decided to buy a cord to keep on hand. I had about a cord of cherry but figured I'd get a cord of oak, the cherry burns nice and smells good but goes fast compared to oak...
