After looking at the many guide bars that have been made from the early 1900s to today. Ive started to wonder about the varying profiles or silhouettes of guide bars.
The early ones seem to be much taller, when viewing them mounted on the saw.
The radius of the tips were much bigger. Some...

Hello, just created my account.
Decided to come down from lurking in the woods to the warm and tidy campfire that is arboristsite.
I just recently purchased a nonrunning Homelite C-51 convertable drive for $10.
The two main problems with it are it has no spark, and the 20" windsor bar was...

I'm very new to working on chainsaws, and just use it for home use. Chopping down trees, bucking them up, etc. My dad gave me this saw rebuilt for christmas a couple years ago and it's time for a new chain...

Hi
My company does regular weekly checks on a Stihl saw by basically starting it up and running it at high revs for 20 seconds and then shutting down. It rarely gets used for cutting.
Can someone tell me if this is bad for the saw and how it is bad, and also if so if there is any evidence or...
Picked up a Montgomery Ward chainsaw. Badging is "TMY 24078 B". I can't find anything on it. It's in some pretty rough shape, and I'd love to find some info on it. Get it cleaned up and running smooth. A friend of mine wants to get into cutting, and I'd like to get it running and squared away...
Hello, everyone. I've been reading the forum for a long time, but it's the first time I'm writing.
A few days ago I bought my much-desired Stihl 048AV. I bought it from England at a good price, the seller said that the chainsaw didn't work. I disassembled and cleaned everything, the problem was...
tl;dr- Which, if any, modifications are worth doing to an out-of-box chainsaw?
~~~~~~~~~~
I'm hoping to understand this a bit more, I learned about two general 'types' of what I can only describe as intentional-weakening of chainsaws (out-of-box) and want to learn more, specifically:
#1 - It...
So my grandad who was like a father to me had a sachs dolmar he always used. I wanted to buy ahusky forever and made fun of his rediculous sounding saw.
He passed away and i found a saw which was a dolmar 5105. My first gas saw. Previous owner beat the sh$@ out of it.
Never been cleaned...
Started easily, but would die before could use. Squirted one second blast of carburetor cleaner into spark plug hole. Now not start. There is spark. New plug, gas, air and gas filters. Inject more carburetor cleaner, or is that what caused problem?
Is this a good buy at $250? Haven’t seen it and don’t know what model it is. Any thoughts. Does anyone know what model it is?
Not sure what to do.
G'day fellas. It's Bob Cornwell's Son, David Cornwell here. I am posting my Sister's snow-mobile engine for sale on her behalf, as I know more about it and about the general topic of mcculloch engines.
The gist of it is this. My sister wants to auction it, but the fees on ebay would cripple her...
Have seen some great info on this site and thought I’d join to get some potentially lifesaving answers for some things.
I’m pretty new to taking down trees, been starting smaller working up. Eventually I have some serious things I need to get down. First on the list (not in level of danger...
Right now, I'm pretty amateur at identifying different types of trees and as it is Early Spring here in Northern Michigan, it is hard to identify tree types by their leaves, because there are none.. So I resort to identifying trees by their bark. From what I've seen - to me, this looks like some...
Hi all.
I'm so glad I've found this forum. Been fighting a problem with my saw for months and have been too stubborn to pay a shop to fix it when I know the answer's out there and I enjoy hands-on work. Here's the situation.
Have an Echo CS-400 saw that I've used only a couple of hours a...
What draws people to McCulloch saws?
I've ran Homelite, Poulan, Stihl, Lombard (Knock Off), etc, and so on, but nothing matches the experience that McCulloch gives.
For me, especially, it's the 10-10 series. With the double louvered muffler.... It is louder than all hell. I love it. I can...
Just thought I would start this and see if we could share when and where the Stihl spring sale is near you. I received a flyer for P & K equipment in Stillwater Oklahoma, said Saturday March 23rd all Stihl power equipment 15% off for that day only. I haven’t seen Stihl sales promotions very...
