I am just full of questions for some odd reason.

I have an old cookstove, inherited with the old homeplace of my great grandparents. It was made by Brown Stove Works of Cleveland, TN. It has six lids, a water box, warming shelf, and a white porcelain finish. It's one of the bigger cookstoves I've laid eyes on. Works like a a dream to. It doesn't have an actual model number only a serial number. Outside of that, it has "Sound Brown Value" on the front. It was made in the 1920's or 30's.

Does anyone know of where I can find some parts for it? Lids, lid holders, grates, etc? I've searched high and low. I called Brown Stove Works, and they've sent all the parts off to the foundry to be recast for other things.

Here's a pic of it.

Don't pay no attention to the goofy fellar standing in front of it. The right side looks identical to the left cept it's reversed.

Thanks,
Nick

Its hard to find a good old cook stove still in working condition. My father-in-law and I try to buy them up when we see them. They are great to cook on and the heat can't be beat. We watch the auctions all around our area and we have people who knows that we look for cook stoves. We just can't buy them all. If you buy them then you have to move them. Our last one took 6 guy to move it and that was all stripped down to the base. Its a beautiful stove all in nickle trim.

There is places on the internet that refurb stoves and sell parts. I can't fine them all right now but heres some:

Even if you find a stove at an auction and all the plates are in good shape, buy it just for them. Some times its cheaper doing that then trying to find new plates. most of the stoves that go up to auction aren't useable. Cracked walls, rusted, grates just melted, stuff like that but the plates are still good.

Good luck and don't give up on the old girl.

This is a way out source for you. I needed a new grate for an orphan box heater. Found one through this outfit:

Stove Plus
2006 S Main St
Moscow Id 83843

208 883 4328

They had an humongous collection of catalogues and sources for orphan parts.

They did need the stove name and IIRC the model number. Might be worth a letter or a phone call.

Nick,

Run a web search on Lehman's -or- (Layman's) Hardware, Kidron, Ohio.

They cater to the Amish, and sell many wood stoves like that brand new. They may be able to help.

Scott76: Some good links. I'd seen some of them, but there a few new in there. I'll check with a couple of those companies and see if they have a few spare parts. There used to be a lot of old cook stoves in our area, but they are becoming sparse as many of the old timers have passed away. Its a sad sight to see so many of the old ways being forgotten. They may have to be relearned the hard way if energy and food prices keep going up!

Turnkey4099: I'll be giving them a call shortly. I know that some of these stoves made it out west. I've seen the name pop up on the occasional property auction. Just to bad they aren't a bit further south closer to the Boise area. My brother is out that way.

Jwoods: I've checked with Lehmans.com before. They didn't have anything, but they do have a nice big copper kettle I'd like to get for stirring applebutter:) Just dont' got the money. Thanks though!
