Guys doing muff mods ask me about these exhaust deflectors from time to time, so I figured I'd post a list and share the info with everyone. There's actually several to pick from. The sizes roughly correspond to the sizes of the original mufflers, but there are no dimensions available. List is by original saw, part number and current retail price. (They aren't cheap are they? :msp_sad:)

55/254---501799101 $17
262--- 503545401 $17
266---503589901 $9
288---503078301 $15
394---503472301 $17

There was a smaller one for the 242XP, but it's NLA.

two eveybody seems to use since they are the cheaper of the bunch.

503589901

Here's the 2 that young posted the numbers of. The 8301 is the one bolted on the muffler. It's a little bigger than the 9901.

Would really like to see the defector so can make "intelligent" decision..??
As said..."not cheap"...:msp_sad:

I would like to see pics of the smaller saw deflectors so I can decide what to do for my MS261 muffler mod. The price doesnt bother me too much, it will pay for itself in time.

I like the pro safety better than the oem ones. The top spike is just a little bit longer and keeps the muffler off the logs when bucking a little bit. I've got a set on the 576 now too.

501799101 - Trimmed a bit around the edges so it fits on the side of the muffler. Definitely overpriced, but does a good job. The screen I used completely disintegrated, from heat and pressure I guess.

2 questions. Does it clear the chain brake when activated? Did you cut out the entire area available for the deflector?

Yes, it clears the chain brake. It does look a little chunky in the photo but it's really quite streamlined. I cut out about 2/3 the area under the deflector - totally unscientific but it works great!

That looks like the 8301 deflector. The 9901 isn't quite as big. I always open them up a little smaller than the opening.

Cool. I know what I'm going to do for an opening, I was just curious what you did. I just PM'ed Mr. Spike to order one. Plus I opened up the stock port as much as possible on mine today.
