Hi, I have acquired a ryobi pcn 4040 chainsaw. I cleaned it up changed stale fuel etc and it starts first time even without priming the fuel :) When I took it apart to clean everything I noticed the brake was not releasing quite enough, the brake handle just needed that tiny bit more pressure so that the brake released to let the chain run free . The previous owner was running it with the brake binding slightly thus sprocket was getting warm and melting the surrounding plastic!! I have seen on youtube on a similar chainsaw where the chap cut the spring down a coil. is this ok to do or does anyone have any ideas? It runs perfectly if I put slight pressure on the handle BUT I know this defeats the object of protecting me if I am holding the handle back. thanks in advance

just seen more info on another fix it forum . apparently its a common fault on ryobi chainsaws. ryobi ignores it even though it's a major safety issue.
