Spruce tree top turning brown.

Hello,
We planted a Norway Spruce in our back yard in late may. Recently we noticed that the needles were turning brown and falling off at the top of the tree. Upon further inspection, there seem to be many very small dark spots/holes on the upper portion of the tree trunk as well. Any ideas what could be causing this? We live in southern New Hampshire.

White Pine Weevil.
I know, it’s a Spruce but they attack those too.
Prune out the dead stems. Treat with a systemic like imidacloprid for next year. Re prune for a single leader going forward.
Weevils have been bad this year in my area.
